The N.H. Hurricanes 18-under softball team competed in the Dracut NSA "Last Chance" Tournament this past weekend.  In the first day of pool play the Hurricanes' record was 2 wins no losses and 1 tie.  In the first game against the Dutchess NY Debs Jess Perry  was the winning pitcher allowing only 1 earned run while striking out 3.  Nicole LaChance of Rochester had the hot bat, hitting a triple and double driving in 2 runs.  The team also had 3 double plays, including a catch in right field by Amanda DuBois of Pinkerton,  who then threw to third to double up the runner. The final score was 7-1.

In the second game the Hurricanes tied the Chelton MA Warriors 3-3.  Sara Joyce of Pinkerton went 3 for 3 driving in 2 runs.  Allison Greene of Newmarket and Sara Arnold of Bow split the pitching duties and each struck out 2.  Holly Glennon had a double driving in the final run.

The final game of pool play was a true pitchers dual between Sara Arnold and N.H. Sharks pitcher Melanie Henderson.  The game went to an 8th inning tie breaker. Arnold pitched 6 strong innings giving up only 3 hits and no runs.  Mel Henderson went the distance, striking out 10, but giving up the game winning double to Maureen Keleghan of Bow, who drove in the go ahead runs in the bottom of the 8th.  Jess Perry was the winning pitcher in relief striking out 2 and giving up 1 earned run.  The final was 3-1 Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes were seeded 3rd of 15 teams after pool play was completed.  They took a tough 4-2 loss against the Dutchess Debs in the first round of open play. Allison Greene pitched 4 1/3 innings with 6 strikeouts, but the Debs pitcher quieted the Hurricane bats with an array of off-speed pitches.

Thanks again, Mary Anne!
